066: Chef Michael Peacock, The Flying Pie Guy

Uncategorized

Welcome to Episode 066, with Chef Michael Peacock, Founder of The Flying Pie Guy

About Michael:
As a child growing up in Australia and New Zealand, Chef Michael Peacock loved when Friday’s would come around and lucky boys and girls would be able to order fresh, hot pies from their local tuck shop. Hot pies would be delivered to school just before lunch time. The classrooms would be filled with excitement as the aroma of freshly baked pies spread throughout the school.

In the early 1980’s, Mike and his family immigrated to America. New Jersey to be exact. Much to Mike’s surprise, his beloved meat pies were nowhere to be found. Mike would watch his Mum and Dad make meals for his family and loved when they would make pastry filled delights like pies and pasties. Mike grew fond of cooking and soon started cooking on his own. As a teen, Mike would work in restaurants and beg for the Chefs to teach him more about the Culinary Arts, quickly developing a natural love for cooking.

Mike chose a different career path as he started a family of his own but continued to develop his cooking skills. In 2015, Mike made the decision to leave his corporate job and to pursue a new career, one he was passionate about and The Flying Pie Guy was born!

Mike’s dream is to make authentic savory pies, with roots from New Zealand and Australia, available to everyone in America and beyond. He carefully developed his Mum and Dads recipes as well as his own to make them appealing to people of all ages and nationalities. He knew it was important that his signature pastry paired perfectly with his flavor packed fillings and that each gourmet pie was made using all-natural ingredients.

Mike launched his new company in June of 2016. He chose to launch starting with a Food Truck. Timing was perfect as the Food Truck craze was in full swing. Chef Mike thought a Food Truck would be a perfect way to cover large areas, serve all kinds of customers and test which recipes are liked more than others. Chefs Mikes’ savory pies have won awards and been highlighted by numerous media outlets. Mike’s Food Truck was ranked one of the best in New Jersey during 2019 by Peter Genovese, a successful author and food and lifestyle writer for NJ.com. Mike travels throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, selling his natural, savory and delicious pies to all his happy customers.

Very soon, Chef Mike will launch his e-commerce shop, as he realizes his dreams of making his gourmet pies available to everyone who wants to enjoy them. Mike’s ready-to-bake, Down Under style pies and other goodies, will be available through his online portal, and shipped across America.
